Welcome to Military History Wargaming. The Total War series of computer games is an excellent example of combining historical elements, cultural beliefs, and
entertainment that has resulted in an excellent simulation of battles, wars, and history itself. Here is a brief overview of the select games on this site:
1)Rome: Total War-Presents players with the challenge of creating the Roman Empire. Players can choose to lead the Scipii to victory against Carthage, the Brutii to domination against the Greeks, or the Julii to conquest of Gaul.
2)Medieval 2: Total War- Taking place after the conquest of England by William I, King of England and Duke of Normandy, Medieval 2 follows the growth of kings and religion. From the chaos and war in Europe, players can choose to crusade to the Holy Land against the Moors and Turks. This game featured the first use of gunpowder in a Total War game, as well as the conquest of the Americas.
3) Empire: Total War- Beginning in 1700, this game features three separate theatres of warfare: North America, Europe and the Middle East, and India. Administration has become more important because your subjects can now revolt against you, and you can choose to behead the King, or defeat the anarchists. Naval battles are also featured, adding another key aspect to the game.
4) Napoleon: Total War- Following the campaigns of Napoleon Bonaparte, general of the First French Republic and later Emperor of France, this Total War game is an exciting portrayal of early 19th century warfare and culture. While not featuring many new concepts from their previous release, Empire: Total War, this game does add a new dimension: Attrition. Now your troops will suffer effects from the cold and the heat, and will often die because of severe conditions. This reflects Napoleon's disastrous retreat from Moscow during the winter, and the challenges faced by his army in Egypt.
